Significant Convention Centres

The new Costa Rican Convention Center will combine sustainable architecture and design. The facilities will feature reflective roofing, rainwater recycling, automatic shutoff faucets, high-tech air conditioning, sun shields to mitigate solar heating, LED internal and external lighting with solar panels, indoor and outdoor green areas with native tree and plant species, motion sensors to control lighting and a treatment facility. The centre is a model of sustainability, in line with the country's green ethos, and is just eight kms from the international airport and 10kms from the centre of San José.

Protocol

Visitors to Costa Rica require a visa unless they are citizens of one of the eligible countries who are visa exempt up to 90 days. Tourist Board staff can provide assistance on the latest entry information.

Access

Costa Rica offers easy access from the most important cities in North America and Europe. It has two international airports – the Juan Santamaría airport in the Central Valley and the Daniel Oduber Quirós airport in Guanacaste – and is just a one-hour flight from the biggest hub in the Americas. Eighteen airlines offer more than 400 weekly flights to and from the country: Eight new airlines have started flying to the country in the past year alone.

The Costa Rican Conference and Convention Center has a wide range of hotel offerings within a 5-mile (8 km) radius, including 4,000 rooms at top-rate international and national hotel chains.

Ambassadors

An Ambassador programme has been established to connect Costa Rican and international professionals, which should help with event attendance and event legacy. Accessibility is also being tackled with investment in roads, and the main airport, Aeropuerto Juan Santamaria (SJO), has also been upgraded and improved. A new international airport, eight times larger than SJO, is planned for 2027.
